Mar 8, 2024 Our position paper on using mathematical modelling to aid in liver cell therapies has been accepted in npj Regenerative Medicine
Feb 1, 2024 We welome Jasper Knox and Asmaa Slim to the group! They are MSc students who will work on intracellular phase separation and shrinkage during 3D printing, respectively.
Oct 2, 2023 We welome Amy Williams, Keatan Gill, and Jack Gurney to the group! They will work on various final-year projects for their MEng degrees; see the People page for more info!
Sep 25, 2023 We welcome Yaojue Xiong to the group! Yaojue will use modelling, simulation, and experiments to study fracture of drying drops.
Aug 3, 2023 We have just published a paper in EJAM in which we show that polyelectrolyte gels can have electrically charged equilibrium states arising from phase separation.
Jun 20, 2023 We have just published a paper in Acta Biomaterialia in which a fibre-reinforced hydrogel is designed to mimic the poroelastic response of cartilage.
Mar 1, 2023 Our paper on the drying of poroelastic films on cantilever beams has been accepted for publication in EJAM. We develop reduced-order models and validate them against finite element simulations.
Jan 24, 2023 We welcome Dominique Bell, Jacob Short, and Nicoletta Lambrou to the group!
Jan 8, 2023 Matt in collaboration with Sebastien Rochat has been awarded a pump-priming grant to study the volume phase transition in stimuli-responsive gels using experiments and modelling.
Nov 20, 2022 Our paper on the collapse of polyelectrolyte gels has been accepted in SIAP. In this paper, we study how polyelectrolyte gels deswell during the volume phase transition.
Oct 30, 2022 We welcome Will Simpkins to the group! Will’s PhD project will focus on modelling thin, morphing structures.
Oct 1, 2022 We welcome James Webb to the group! James will investigate how the evaporation rate can be used create nanostructured polymeric materials for use in organic solar cells.
Aug 10, 2022 Matt Penn’s paper on optimising drug release from hydrogels has been accepted for publication. In this paper, we explore how the initial drug concentration can be used to optimise the release of drugs.
Jun 26, 2022 The CFM Lab welcomes Matthew Ghosh to the group! Matthew will work on deriving a model for poroelastic shells.
Apr 12, 2022 Our paper on modelling the drying of poroelastic drops has been accepted in PRE. Here, we propose that the alignment of desiccation fractures is controlled by the profile of the drop at the gel point.
Apr 4, 2022 Oliver’s paper on fluid-fluid phase separation in soft granular materials has been accepted in JMPS. We derive a thermodynamically consistent model to capture the formation of cavities within the granular material when one fluid phase is strongly non-wetting.
Jan 28, 2022 The CFM Lab welcomes Hriday Poduval to the group! Hriday will work on modelling drug-loaded hydrogels.
Jan 18, 2022 Our paper on modelling polyelectrolyte gels that undergo phase separation has been accepted for publication in JMPS. We show that a novel mode of phase separation can lead to localised pattern formation and a breakdown of electroneutrality in the bulk of the gel.
Oct 16, 2021 Matt Hennessy has been awarded the 7th APS Division of Polymer Physics and Institute of Physics Polymer Physics Group Exchange Lectureship. He will give an invited talk at the APS March meeting on his work.
Oct 14, 2021 The CFM lab welcomes Charlie Risdale. Charlie will work on modelling short circuits in lithium-ion batteries
